Graduated in Painting from the Faculdade de Belas-Artes da Universidade de Lisboa (Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon), Portugal, in 1998. In 2000, Ana João completed a postgraduate course in Museology and Heritage at the Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas – Universidade Nova de Lisboa (Faculty of Social and Human Sciences - New University of Lisbon) and a Master of Art, at the Royal College of Art, London, in 2002.
She was a resident artist at the North Wales School of Art & Design, in 2003. From 2003 to 2005, she taught Visual Arts at the Universidade de Évora (University of Évora), Portugal.
Ana João is currently a Lecturer at the Escola Superior de Arte e Design - ESAD (Higher School of Art and Design). She is also a monitor of the Education Service of the Centro de Arte Moderna José de Azeredo Perdigão - Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian (José de Azeredo Perdigão Modern Art Centre – Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation), Lisbon. solo Exhibitions 2009
