Graduated in History of Art from the Faculdade de Letras da Universidade de Lisboa - FLUL (Faculty of Humanities - University of Lisbon), Portugal, in 2002. He was a Socrates-Erasmus scholarship holder at the Barcelona University.

Valter Ventura finished the Advanced Photography Course, at AR.CO - Centro de Artes e Comunicação Visual (Arts and Visual Communication Centre), Almada, Portugal, with a Banco Espírito Santo (Espírito Santo Bank) Grant, in 2005.

He also completed the Photography Course of the Programa Gulbenkian Criatividade e Criação Artística (Gulbenkian Programme of Creativity and Art Creation), in 2008 and MobileHome - Experimental Course in Contemporary Art, Art Allgarve, Loulé, Portugal, in 2009.

Valter Ventura is currently a Lecturer at the Photography Department of the Instituto Politécnico de Tomar (Tomar Polytechnic Institute), Portugal.
